Day 5 - Milton, VT (Day 3)

Today was perfect for relaxing and touring some of the area.

We had brunch at Milton Diner, took a scenic drive to Burlington, and enjoyed the opening of the Festival of Fools.

Malletts Bay
Our scenic drive to Burlington took us by Malletts Bay. The bay is on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain, north of Burlington. It offers great protection for lots of boats.

Festival of Fools
The 7th annual Festival of Fools opened tonight at the Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington. It's a free community event to celebrate circus arts, music and comedy. We were there for the opening ceremonies. There were lots of food vendors, circus acts and musicians. It was interesting, but felt a bit chaotic.
Entering the Marketplace
Lots of visitors and news to be reported.
The Hokum Bros. were the opening act.
There was lots of outside dining.

Carol had a close call with WCAX-TV (Ch 3) news reporter, Shelby Cashman. We were waiting for the Hokum Bros. to open the first performance of the festival. Shelby was looking for some of the crowd to describe their impressions of the event ... and selected Carol. She started to escort Carol to the news camera and microphone just as the Hokums started performing. That stopped the interview. Whew, that was close!

Tomorrow
David starts a 12-hour work shift early in the morning. We'll resume our travel toward Nova Scotia.
