Day 19 - Baddeck, NS to LaHave, NS

This was a travel day. We drove 294 miles as we moved from central Cape Breton Island to LaHave in southeastern Nova Scotia.

The Start
We got up early with intentions of leaving ahead of our Airstream friends, Neil and Nancy McCallum. This secret contest was the result of both families admitting last night that they don't do early departures well.

We pulled out feeling pretty arrogant. We had gotten ready in record time.

Our bubble burst as we passed the McCallum's site at 8:45am. They were already gone!

On the Way
We traveled on a Trans-Canada Highway most of the way. The roads were good. The weather was difficult. We had very strong cross winds most of the day and heavy rain squalls until mid-afternoon. The sun emerged by 3pm and the rest of the day was beautiful.

Campground
We're camped at Rissers Beach Provincial Campground, near LaHave. We have a beautiful site near the ocean that has no utilities. We'll be boon-docking for the next three days.

A Family Visit
Carol's daughter,Elizabeth, is married to Tim Lewis. Tim's parents have owned a 150-year-old "sea captain's home" on a Bell Island near LaHave for years. We stopped to visit Fran Lewis (Tim's mom).

We got a great tour of the property by Henry Lewis, Fran's grandson. Henry attends Yale and spends some time in the summer with his grandmother.

We had a lovely "tiny bits" chowder dinner capped off by Fran's own "Blueberry Delight" dessert.

Tomorrow
We're going to explore LaHave.
