Day 13 – Harrington, PE (Day 3)

We traveled 94 miles today while exploring the north-central coast.

The Route
We drove portions of the Central Coastal Drive. Basically, our route took us from Brackley Beach through Rustico, Cavendish, and Bayview to Profitts Point.

The Weather
The temperature stayed in the mid to low-60s. It was overcast most of the day and showered on and off through the afternoon.

Did You Know?
L. M. Montgomery was a Canadian author best known for a series of novels beginning with “Anne of Green Gables”. She was born in Clifton and raised in Cavendish.

Highlights
We saw churches, resorts, cottages, lighthouses, fishing villages, many views of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and part of L.M Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historic Site.

We saw large, attractive churches in most communities we passed.
St Augustine - built 1838
(oldest Catholic church in P.E.I.)

Most lighthouses are small.

Lobster, oyster, clams, mackerel, cod and tuna fishing is big here.

We drove to Profitts Point in search of a lighthouse. We found the lighthouse and an exceptional campground. Twin Shores Camping Area is the largest and nicest we've seen on the island. It has over 600 sites!

Observations
Cavendish is the most “touristy” and the busiest community we've seen on the island.

Tomorrow
We’re going to take a look at the northeastern coast.
