Day 26 – St Mathieu de Beloeil, QC to Ottawa, ON

Today was a great day. We sort of “got outta Dodge” … we left Quebec. We were on the road by 9:15 and arrived in Ottawa by noon.

The Route
We drove 139 miles and ended up in Ottawa in time for some sightseeing. We took TCH-20W into Montreal, connected with TCH-40, left Montreal on TCH-40N to route 417 in Ontario and continued on ON-417 to Ottawa.

The drive through Montreal was petty tense. There was lots of traffic. Highway construction, narrow lanes, confusing road signs, aggressive drivers and an accident caused quite a mess.

On the Way
Ahh ... a sign we can read!

Ottawa
We drove downtown to see Parliament Hill. What a treat! We enjoyed the history, the gothic architecture and regal atmosphere.
Ottawa has lots of modern buildings.

Rotunda in the Parliament Building
Library of Parliament
Carol met Queen Elizabeth II
Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica

National Gallery of Canada
Pont Alexandra Bridge
Supreme Court of Canada

We took a guided tour of the East Block (senate office building). Our guide, Emily, was well versed and charming.

The Campground
We’re camped at Camp Hither Hills on the outskirts of Ottawa. It’s OK, not great. Their Wi-Fi is useless.

Tomorrow
We’re heading northwest toward Algonquin Provincial Forest and North Bay.
