It’s
sunny and pleasant today.
Retraining
Day
We'll undoubtedly look back on today as our "Retraining Day”.
Let’s set the stage for an
explanation ...
* Lucy
is a precocious, 4 year old granddaughter.
* William
is an energetic, 2 year old grandson.
* Father
is out of town for a family project.
* Mother
needs to be in a conference in the morning and teach in the afternoon.
* Out-of-practice
grandparents have just arrived.
* Assignment:
watch the children until late afternoon and do a few other chores.
Can you see where this is going?
Lucy helps Dick with a project. |
Lucy teaches us how to tell the difference between Eggs n' Bacon, Pork Chop, Sausage and Baby Back |
The deck is big enough to escape grandparents. |
Chore 1: Provide water for the
chickens and turkeys
It’s too far for William to walk … Mom: take
him in a stroller.
OK, let's go! |
Don’t know the way … Mom: have Lucy show you
the way.
Two chickens are running loose … Lucy: it’s
OK, Mom & Dad let them.
Chore 2: Gather today’s eggs … Mom: there are containers up there.
Grandmother: There weren't any there.
Chore 3: Goat escaped from the pen.
Grandfather chased him/her back under the
fence.
OK, OK, I'll go back. |
Chore 4: Take children to
lunch … Grandmother’s idea.
There’s no room in the car … Grandfather stores
stuff under the trailer.
William plays with greasy hitch … Grandfather cleans him up.
Not sure of family diet rules … Grandparents ignore
them.
Chore 5: Put William down for a nap
He’ll have no part of it … he wins.
End of day:
Dad comes home from out of town earlier than
planned.
Mom comes home from teaching later than planned.
Everyone is happy! Whew!
