Day 42 – Lynden, WA to Bellevue, WA

The day is sunny and warm. Our 113 mile drive to Bellevue was quite pleasant. We say Bellevue, but for those unfamiliar with the area, we’re in a suburb just east of Seattle. We’re here to visit Jon and Judy Siehl, dear friends from Columbus.

The Route
WA-546 west to I-5, I-5 south to I-405, I-405 south to I-90 and I-90 west to our campground.

Observations

Withdrawal …
We saw a Tim Hortons in almost every Canadian town, large or small. It seemed that a trip to “Timmy’s” was a national pastime. In an effort to honor tradition, we became fans of their coffee, donuts and breakfast sandwiches.  Our return to the U.S. has brought a harsh reality. We haven’t seen a single Tim Hortons since crossing the border.

Leaving the Lynden KOA …
The KOA grounds seemed peaceful as we pulled out.

Unexpected journey in Seattle …
We used our trusty GPS “Babe” to direct our route to the Siehl’s home. We crossed Mercer Island to arrive in the heart of Seattle. Unfortunately, it didn’t know about downtown construction and closed streets. We ended up winding around on back streets near Safeco Field and the cruise ship area.
Ahh, headed in the right direction at last!

A Visit to the Citadel …
The Siehl’s live in a condo complex called The Citadel on Queen Anne Hill. It’s very nice and has a great view of Elliott Bay.

Their condo is the 2nd deck up.
It's fun to view the cruise ships from here.

In the short time since their move to Seattle, Jon and Judy have become gifted tour guides. We visited their daughter Sharon, had a lovely dinner by the bay and enjoyed the sunset from Magnolia Bluffs.

Dinner and sunset …

We head out to catch the last of the sunset.

End of the day …
Jon suggested an alternate return route. We got back to the campground with no problems. It was late and we were really tired. It was a delightful day!

The Campground
Trailer Inns of Bellevue is located in a high traffic area within the city. It’s been here since the 1950s. Basically, were camped on a treed, asphalt parking lot. The rigs are pretty close together. But … they offer lots of amenities at a fair price and they were the closest campground to Jon and Judy Siehl.

Tomorrow
We’re going to Portland.
